The Ultimate Camping Gear Checklist for 2025

camping gear checklist

Let’s talk gear. If you’re anything like me, you’ve probably packed for a weekend in the woods like you’re prepping for a six-month Antarctic expedition. (Did I need three flashlights? Yes. Did I use any of them? No, because I forgot batteries.) Here’s your 2025 checklist, with everything you need and a few things you’ll bring anyway because, “What if?”

The Basics (Don’t Leave Home Without These)

  • Tent (with all the poles, stakes, and that one extra thing you’ll forget anyway)
  • Sleeping bag (rated for “I’m not freezing to death tonight”)
  • Sleeping pad (because the ground is not as soft as you remember from childhood)
  • Headlamp/flashlight (and batteries, for the love of all that is holy)

The “I’m a Responsible Adult” Stuff

  • First aid kit (for when you inevitably trip over a root)
  • Water filter or purification tablets (nature water is not as pure as Instagram says)
  • Multi-tool (because you never know when you’ll need to open a can, cut a rope, or perform minor surgery on a marshmallow)

The “I’m Extra” Add-Ons

  • Camp chair (for judging other people’s fire-building skills in comfort)
  • Coffee setup (because mornings are hard, even in nature)
  • The Complete Camping App (seriously, it’s like having a checklist that checks itself—plus, it’ll remind you of the stuff you forgot to write down)

Things You’ll Probably Forget

  • Pillow (unless you like sleeping on a sweatshirt that smells like bug spray)
  • Trash bags (because leaving no trace is sexy)
  • Extra socks (trust me)
  • Duct tape (because it fixes everything, including your dignity)

Final Checklist Wisdom

Print this list, put it in your bag, and then forget where you put it. Or, better yet, just use The Complete Camping App and let it do the remembering for you. It even updates for new gear trends, so you don’t show up with last decade’s tent and become a cautionary tale.

Gear doesn’t make the camper, but it does make the camping a lot less “why am I doing this?” and a lot more “I’m basically an outdoor goddess.” Happy packing, and may your tent poles always be in the bag.
