Solo Female Camping: Safety, Confidence & Adventure

Woman camping alone

So, you want to camp alone.

Maybe it’s about empowerment, or maybe you just want to eat an entire s’mores kit without anyone judging you. (No judgment here. I once ate a whole bag of marshmallows for “science.”) But let’s be real: camping solo as a woman comes with a few extra “hmm, should I?” moments. My mother’s favorite is, “What if you get eaten by a bear?” My answer: “Then at least I won’t have to answer work emails anymore.”

Safety First, Sass Second

  • Tell Someone Your Plans: Even if that someone is your dog. Or your mom, who will then text you every 15 minutes. (“Are you alive? Did you see a bear? Are you sure you’re alive?”)
  • Trust Your Gut: If a campsite gives you weird vibes, leave. Your instincts are better than Google Maps.
  • Bring Protection: I mean pepper spray, but also a really loud whistle, and maybe a spatula for dramatic effect.

Confidence: Fake It Until You Make It

  • Practice at Home: Set up your tent in the backyard. Pretend the neighbor’s cat is a mountain lion. You’ll feel like Bear Grylls in no time.
  • Own Your Space: Walk around like you belong, even if you’re just looking for the bathroom. Bonus points for narrating your journey like a nature documentary.

Adventure: The Good, The Bad, The Hilarious

  • Try New Things: Like cooking over a fire, or using a composting toilet. (It’s an experience. That’s all I’ll say.)
  • Journal It: Or, if you’re like me, text your best friend every weird thing that happens. (“A squirrel just stole my trail mix. I’m considering legal action.”)

The Complete Camping App: Your Pocket-Sized BFF

Honestly, The Complete Camping App is like having a non-judgmental, always-prepared friend in your phone. Need to find a safe campsite? It’s got reviews. Forgot how to tie a bear bag? There’s a tutorial. Want to track your solo adventures so your mom can chill out? It does that, too. Download it before you go. -Because sometimes you need more than your gut and your spatula.

Solo camping is equal parts scary and awesome. You’ll come back with stories, confidence, and maybe a new appreciation for indoor plumbing. And hey, if you forget something, The Complete Camping App probably remembered it for you.
